Updating myPractice – Network Edition
The following is a step-by-step guide to updating the myPractice Network Edition.
Edit: More details of this process may be found here - Network Edition Update Notes
The following applies to all Network Installations that are not hosted by myPractice via our myPractice Live service. (To arrange a Hosted myPractice Live service update, please email us at Support.)
The Network Update must be run in order and as per the following instructions:
Step 1 - Network Database Server Update
"Preflight checklist":
- The user running the update must logged on to the desktop of the Database Server
- The user running the update must be logged on with Administrative privileges or in Vista/Win7 be able to right-click and 'Run as Administrator'.
- All mobile users must synchronise any changes prior to the update being run. Failure to do this will mean the loss of any changes from those computers not synchronised.
- myPractice must be closed on all Client computers - no data entry or changes can be made once the Server Update is started.
Download the myPractice Network Database Updater from here to the desktop.
Double click the file to run the database update.
The update proceeds through the following steps:
- Backs up the database
- Executes all the commands to update the database.
- Records a log file myPracticeDBUpdate.txt on the desktop.
- The updater will restore the database to its former state should the update fail.
After the Server Update is complete, all Client computers must be updated before they can be used.
Step 2 - Client Updates
All Client computers must be able to connect to the Network Database Server to allow an update to proceed. The update checks that the Network Server is at the right Version number before proceeding.
- Download the file MP_Setup.exe from our Download page:
- When you click the link you will be presented with a dialog similar to this:

- When the download completes, click Run, or double-click the file called MP_Setup.exe on your desktop:

- You may receive a security warning asking you to confirm that you wish to run the file. (All myPractice files are signed with the iResolveIT Ltd Security Certificate: you should always see “Publisher iResolveIT Limited” in this dialog)

- myPractice will uninstall the old version. Note: Your data and settings are preserved and are safe during this process. Click Next…

- Prior to the uninstallation, the installer checks that the Client computer can connect to the Server to retrieve the Database Version information. If this fails, the install will abort.
- During the uninstall process, myPractice checks eligibility and updates your license accordingly. If your Licence is found to be ineligible for an update the process will be aborted before any files are removed – leaving your existing myPractice installation intact.
- Once the uninstall of the old version is complete, the installation of the new version can begin… Click Next on this screen…

- Confirm that you accept the License Agreement:
